American Fiber Optics is awarded a Sole Source Contract from the US Air Force
April 1, 2009
| Telecommunications FIRM LANDS DEAL FROM AIR FORCE American Fiber Optic Technologies, a Virginia Beach telecommunications company, has been awarded a contract from the Air Force. American Fiber will design a “prototype plug-and-play secure system,” a fast-connecting hardware device, to monitor and direct vehicles, drones and infantry from afar. “The future of warfare will be surveillance, drone management and direction,” said Trente Balderson, American Fiber’s CEO. |
American Fiber, is in its third year of business, said Mike Young, the general manager. “By looking for solutions and responding to our customers’ needs, we have positioned our company to grow as this market evolves,” he said. “We are excited that the U.S. Air Force has selected our company as a strategic partner in this endeavor.” -Philip Walzer The Virginian-Pilot |
American Fiber Optics was awarded a sole source contract from the U.S. Air Force to provide “Secured Network Floor Boxes” We take pride in our ability to provide custom solutions to difficult and challenging communication environments.
In this case, these boxes are a custom solution that combines security and performance at a minimal cost. The flexible design will allow future upgrade and adaptability as requirements change. We have created the highest density design able to handle 172 fiber connections in a 9” x 10” sealed enclosure. For added security we have backbone couplings that are keyed with up to 8 different configurations. It is the only design on the market that takes the guesswork out of the install.
We had to draw on our extensive knowledge of military products to incorporate:
- Protection
- Security
- Cost COTS (Commercial Off the Shelf) Components
- Density
- Ease of Install
